Ronit Cohen, Owner/Co-Founder of Roco Runs

What is Roco Runs?

Roco is the first two letters of my first and last name but many people started calling me Roco lately.

The day I discovered the Instagram I felt immediately in love with the magic that I can create with the camera. At that time I wasn’t a professional photographer, but I knew that I wanted to improve my photo shooting skills. I discovered my passion, so I began documenting everyday life situations in Tel Aviv.

Besides photo shooting, I love to run. I always run, mostly alone but then 2 years ago I decided to start running with my friends.

It all started from fun morning runs on Saturday mornings. As I said, I always liked to use the camera in everyday situations and instead of just running with my friends I would sprint in front of them and take pictures of fun mornings. I took pictures of them running, jumping, dancing, anything interesting that was connected to friends running together.

Also, when we were running together we were looking for a special moment and place to stop and pose for the camera.

Today, Roco is a community for women which includes mainly sports but also fashion and lifestyle. Roco is a project that changed my life. My agenda today is to put women in front of the lens of my camera and to tell their story in various sports fields. ROCO Instagram page is like an Instagram magazine, Roco shares the world through running, training, and lifestyle. Roco powers and motivates women with photos and stories of the leading runners, athletes, trainers and fashion influencers from all over the world. Lately, Roco also has a regular column in a leading media and news website in Israel in which I take photos and interview leading athletes.

What is the inspiration behind RR?

I think that when women empower other women it's much more powerful. One of the ways to change people's perception can be visual, by photos. I believe that women still have a long way to go and women inspiring women may contribute something.

I believe in the power of women together and I want to create a movement of happy and strong women. In the future, I would like to share the personal journey of the Roco girls all over the world and make Roco a universal movement.

When you combine sport with friends and fun- laughing, jumping, dancing, posing- it gives you a good feeling, both inside and outside. We stop when we want, we don't take time, we enjoy the moment and the camera is always with me to capture these moments. When I take these photos I try to show that strong women are beautiful and happy women.

During difficult times, how do you stay motivated and positive in spreading your mission?

Because photography is My passion.

The basis of Roco is the photos, the visual contact. From this, it emerged to something much bigger than just good professional photos. I try to accompany the posted pictures with interesting stories about the women, women who all see sport as a part of their life. Photography is my passion and the combination of photos, women and sport is my mission.

What do you like to do outside of work that directly impacts your career?

I think that I've been running all my life. I was always a "sporty" girl. Usually, I run between 3 to 5 times a week.  Running is a way of life for me. When I run alone it's a kind of meditation for me and quality time with myself. On the other hand, I also like to run with friends, these kinds of runs are the opposite of my "alone" runs. These runs are fun runs with friends, enjoying the moment, laughing and posing for pictures. I also take yoga classes and lately I fell in love with a new sport, surfing.

How important is having a daily routine?

My morning runs clean my thoughts. If I can't run during the week my whole week is less successful.

What are one challenge and one lesson you've learned from your experience as a founder?

It goes on. And the most important thing for me is to get up in the morning to something I have a passion for.

What are your top two favorite RR moments so far?

Marathon Paris (my first marathon) and every moment I’m taking pictures of strong and beautiful women and telling their stories.

Can you tell us one invaluable resource that has helped in the growth and development of Roco Runs?

My running friends - It would never have happened without them.
